Mahabalipuram

It is famous for its beautiful beach & the old age temple which reflect the Dravidian art & architect. Mahabalipuram holds its own, and stands as a silent yet eloquent witness to the glory of its creators.

Fort St George

The Fort Museum exhibits many items of the period of English and later British rule. This building was completed in 1795 and first housed the office of the Madras Bank. The hall upstairs was the Public Exchange Hall and served as a place for public meetings, lottery draws and occasional entertainment.

Kapaleeshwarar Temple

The temple has numerous shrines, with those of Kapaleeshwarar and Karpagambal being the most prominent. The temple complex houses many halls. The temple has six daily rituals at various times from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and four yearly festivals on its calendar. The Arubathimoovar festival celebrated during Paṅkuni in the Tamil calendar is its most prominent festival.

Meenakshi temple

The Meenakshi temple is believed to have been founded by Indra while he was on a pilgrimage to atone for his misdeeds. He felt his burden lifting as he neared the swayambu lingam of Madurai. He ascribed this miracle to the lingam and constructed the temple to enshrine it. Indra worshipped Shiva, who caused golden lotuses to appear in the nearby pool.
